I just wanted to put out there for the group a quick apology that I haven't been posting the stuff I've been writing in class. I know that a major part of this class is sharing what we have written with others, and I do want to share my thoughts and writings with all of you- I simply haven't had the time to retype everything and post online. I'm hoping by the end of this week to be all caught up.
I did have a pretty cool idea for a play- A guy arrives in a town and is seated on a bench. It's a pretty small town, so people begin to notice him and talk to him. As they talk to him, he reveals that this is the day that he is going to die. All his life, he has known the exact moment, so now he is here to watch one last sunset. He's accepted it, the people in town have various reactions and try to get him to change his mind, to try to live, but he is sure of himself.
It would be really cool to have the lighting on stage go from daylight to sunset to dusk as the play progresses.

The heart to mind to soul
Anywho, here's what I wrote in class. A caveat: I don't remember what I meant when I wrote this.
Transparency to the heart to the mind to the soul
Would an undershirt have blocked access to the inside? If introspection is required to become an artist- self-awareness and self realization- does this have to be focused from an internal or external veiw? Is it posssible to become completely opaque to the outside world and yest still maintain a sense of transparency into oneself? And if everyone was completely transparent, would stories be as exciting?
Part of the excitement of the story is the slow pealing back of layers to reveal somthing that was previously hidden. We look for the unexpected twist or the punch line to the story, and a joke is ruined if you muff the ending. Is transparency used as a process just for yourself, or for others?
